Fire in the Cascades

It has been a summer of extreme drought for Western Washington - and much of the rest of the western US. The drought has led to EXTREMELY dry conditions throughout the Skagit Valley and the North Cascades - both the east and west sides; we've never seen it like this. And now, fire. It seems all of Washington is on fire.A wildfire is burning in the North Cascades just above the ranch near the town of Newhalem and Highway 20 is closed just a few miles north of us. So far, the town of Marblemount and our ranch and animals are safe.

It has been a busy summer here at the ranch. We leased another 80 acres of pasture just across the river this spring and Rick and Alex have spent months getting it fenced for rotational grazing for our grass fed beef.
